The North Port Area Chamber of Commerce and the City of North Port will be hosting a Special Surtax Community Forum to educate attendees about the Sarasota County Surtax and its impact on the community.
The Sarasota County Surtax is a voter-approved one percent sales tax that is subject to renewal every 15 years. As a major funding source for the City of North Port, the surtax funds local infrastructure improvements such as public safety, roads, sidewalks, parks, libraries and schools. In November 2022, Sarasota County residents will have the opportunity to vote for a continuation of the surtax for another 15 years. This is not a new tax and is currently in effect.
