  • 2017-2018 Committee Structure

    The following is a general overview of the Chamber’s eight committees, including meeting days and times. You are invited and encouraged to participate in one or more committees that spark your interest or serve your business/organization.

    Business & Economic Development: This Committee is designed to improve the local economy and create better conditions for economic growth. It works to create a business-friendly community and promote North Port as a place to locate and grow your business. It works to improve prospects for job creation and retention and development of the human capital. It will monitor the agendas and actions of other public and private economic development organizations in the region and will advise the Chamber about issues critical to the community’s economic growth and business development. This Committee meets on the fourth Tuesday of every month at 8:30 am at Sarasota Memorial Health Care System ER in North Port (2345 Bobcat Village Center Road, 2nd floor).     Capacity Building: This Committee designs and implements diverse funding for working capital in support of the Chamber’s mission. This could include enhanced exposure opportunities for members, sponsorships, Chamber fees, public-private funding and grant writing. This Committee also oversees special events             sub-committees such as the Golf Tournament, Business and Community Expo, A Night at the Races, etc. This Committee meets the second Wednesday of every month at 8:00 am at the Key Agency office (14942 Tamiami Trail, Suite H, North Port).     Governance Committee:  Made up of Chamber Past Presidents. Meets quarterly at the North Port Area Chamber of Commerce office. This Committee is Chaired by the Immediate Past President of the Board of Directors each year.

    Government Relations: This Committee acts as the liaison between Chamber Members and various local, regional, and state governing bodies, as well as monitoring any public policy or legislation that may impact the business community. They also host the Hob Nob event in election years. This Committee meets on the fourth Thursday of every month at 8:30 am at Sarasota Memorial Health Care System ER in North Port (2345 Bobcat Village Center Road, 2nd floor).     Marketing & Communications Committee: This Committee identifies and implements ways to promote and enhance the Chamber’s image and place in the community. This Committee is responsible for telling the Chamber’s story through promotional and marketing activities. This Committee meets the first Friday of every month at 9:00 am at Charlotte State Bank & Trust (4300 Aiden Lane, North Port).  For more information, please contact Committee Chair Mike Williams, ClikWiz at (941) 286-7040.

    Member Services Committee: This Committee identifies and implements ways to recruit and support new members, as well as identify and implement ways to maintain existing membership. Their efforts include outreach, welcome visits to new businesses, Chamber orientations, membership drives, retention surveys, member events, and networking events. This Committee meets on the second Tuesday of every month at 8:30 am at Perkins Restaurant (6001 S. Salford Boulevard, North Port).     Professional Development/Education Committee: This Committee provides the Chamber members and the community with opportunities to foster business and personal success. They oversee the Lunch & Learn Workshops and Leadership North Port program. This Committee meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 4:00 pm at the North Port Goodwill Community Room (14879 S.     North Port Young Professionals: This Committee is less of a committee and more of a networking group, intended to connect chamber members ages 21-45 via unique networking, marketing, and service opportunities. This Committee is currently restructuring.

    In addition to these standing committees, there will occasionally be a specific work group, sub-committee or task force established for annual events or special projects. These typically meet often for a short period of time.
